Sleep Out, Speak Out

The truth is, while we may sit in class and wonder what will be served at Miley that night or if there’s anything fun going on this weekend, there are an alarming number of people out there who are just trying to figure out a place to sleep each night.

This devastating problem is why Salve Regina’s L.E.A.D. Club has decided to raise awareness by organizing the Sleep Out, Speak Out event for October 24th. Students who participate will be spending one night sleeping on the lawn outside Wakehurst to have a good time, while also raising awareness for a serious issue. L.E.A.D Club will also be collecting donations starting now, up until the Sleep Out, Speak Out.

The best part is how easy it is to donate, L.E.A.D. is collecting not only toiletries but also cardboard boxes. This means that on your next trip to Stop and Shop, you can help by simply picking up an extra toothbrush or deodorant and bringing it to the Office of Community Service, or when you receive your next care package, bring the box down to the Office of Community Service instead of just letting it sit in your room for a week- something we’ve all done before!

Participating in the Sleep Out, Speak Out is something every Salve Student should consider. By doing this event, students will be aiding in the efforts to end homelessness and coming together as a school. Plus, who doesn’t want an excuse to camp out on Wakehurst’s lawn for a night?
