Brittany Murphy and Maria Raffia had great style.
If you weren’t at the SnoBall this past Saturday then you were missing out! Ochre Court was transformed into a regular club night with musical beats that left little to complain about, considering how many people tried to crowd onto the dance floor. Over 500 students showed up (that’s over 200 more than last year) to “shake their tail feather” to the music being blasted by the DJ. There was a fairly good selection of current hits, sweet slow songs, and those old favorites you can’t get enough of.
A new idea was introduced to this year’s dance, a Royal Court. Representatives were nominated for one of two categories – Freshmen/Sophomore or Junior/Senior. During the last hour of the dance, the top five nominees were announced and received a flower. Salve’s new reigning royalty for the upperclassmen are Brian Werner and Lauren Czarnecki. “It is an honor to be the first ever King of the Salve Snoball,” laughed Werner. “I think being a pleasant guy and involved in campus groups helped me to be known and voted for.” His elected Queen Czarnecki tried to meet new people and relied on the pull of word of mouth as a strategy for winning votes. Our general consensus was that this year was so successful thanks in part to a more active freshmen class. According to members of the Campus Activities Board (CAB) increased attendance has been a trend for most of this year’s campus events. Freshmen, however, were not the only class to show their faces at the dance. From looking about the room one could pick out students from all different class levels out there enjoying themselves. Dancing was not the only way that people enjoyed themselves; “student watching” was another favorite pastime. When asked where girls got their dresses, the most common reply was “From my closet, this is my old prom dress.” Fashions ranged from dresses as fancy formal wear to something as simple as a strapless or halter dress fancied up by an oversized flower, a shawl, or a fun pair of shoes. Then there was the guy’s attire. Most were wearing slacks, button down shirt, tie and nice dress shoes. But as per usual in the college crowd, there are always some exceptions, such as Andrew Hacket. Andrew came to the dance in his usual “dress wear,” a pair of khakis, an un-tucked button down shirt, tie, baseball cap, and his usual foot apparel, flip flops. Overall when asked if students enjoyed the dance, we were met with an enthusiastic “yes.” Many students would like to see more activities like the SnoBall. The dance was a hit and hopefully Salve can look forward to more activities like it in the near future.
