Ice cream, one of the many desserts that remind us of summertime. Most of us grew up with it: whether it is your favorite dessert or a “pitstop” on the way home from the beach. It has integrated into each of our lives in some way. There are some of us, however, who cannot eat ice cream. Many allergies, as well as many digestive disorders like lactose intolerance, prevent some of us from enjoying the dessert. With this in mind, some of us have to be extremely careful when it comes to ice cream.
As summer is approaching rapidly, I thought that it was time to finally try a local ice cream store that is close to campus. I searched “high and low” to find the perfect location that would accommodate all types of palates, as well as including a variety of dietary needs. The location that checked all the “boxes” on my checklist was Clementine’s Ice Cream. Located on 62 Wave Ave. in Middletown, R.I., the shop is easy to find and not too far from Salve’s campus!
The atmosphere of the shop is super inviting! There is a great interior design, and the staff is so welcoming. They are completely Covid-friendly and have an online option for ordering (of which I decided to take advantage). Pick-up was easy and really fast. An “A+” in regard to the shop itself!
Now for the important part: the ice cream! I decided to get three flavors of ice cream to try so that I could accommodate some dietary requirements. The first flavor I picked up was strawberry. This one was delicious! It is just regular ice cream – so no specific dietary requirements on this one. It was the perfect amount of sweetness and creaminess, though it did taste really “light” and did not leave me with a heavy feeling. This is one flavor I would definitely recommend.
The second flavor that I opted to try was the black raspberry chip yogurt. This can be for anyone who is a little more heath-conscious, or just prefers a frozen yogurt in comparison to the typical ice cream. Like strawberry, this was also excellent! There was a rich berry flavor that lingered throughout the frozen yogurt and the dark chocolate chips scattered in every bite only made it that much better! If you are thinking about trying out a frozen yogurt, I highly suggest this one!
The last flavor that I tried was the clementine sorbet. This was spectacular. Initially, I was not expecting much with this flavor; I thought that it would not have that much taste and be dull in comparison to the others. I was so wrong. This sorbet is packed with flavor! It is light and airy, and the perfect pick-me-up on a warm day. It has a citrus taste that completely fills your palate, but it is not too overpowering to the point where all you can taste is clementine. Whether you have a dietary preference or not, this is a must-have on a hot day in the summer!
Overall, Clementine’s Ice Cream is a great location to get frozen desserts from! The homemade ice creams, frozen yogurts, and sorbets are all so delicious and the flavors that I tried only prove that. If you get the opportunity to go, take advantage of it! You will not regret trying one of the best ice cream places near Salve’s campus!
Have a great summer everyone!
