SRU Dance Club Presents Spring Performance, “Turn It Up”

By: Brianna Occhialini –

SRU Dance Club, Salve Regina University’s largest student-run dance organization, will present its spring performance, “Turn it Up,” on April 20th and 21st in Rodgers Recreation Center. This spring’s performance will include 29 dances in styles of Tap, Jazz, Lyrical, Hip Hop, Modern, Irish Step and African, and a this semesters finale number showcasing the senior class. This semester, the club boasts over 120 performers dancing to the music of Chris Brown, La Roux, Florence and the Machine, Alt-J, and many more.

Performances will be held Saturday, April 20, 2013 and Sunday, April 21, 2013. The Saturday performance will begin at 7:00 pm with an admission price of at least a $1 donation to the Andrea Rizzo Foundation. Last semester SRU Dance raised over 1,200 for the cause.  Sunday’s performance will begin at 1:00 pm with an admission price of $5. At both shows, children young enough to sit on an adult’s lap get in free.

As previously mentioned, the opening night of “Turn it Up” will support the Andrea Rizzo Foundation. Andrea Rizzo was a graduate of Salve Regina University, and was tragically killed by a drunk driver at age 24. The foundation raises money for children’s cancer research through dance therapy programs. SRU Dance continues to support ‘Drea’s Dream’ and help the foundation in any way they can.
