On Sept. 25, 2009 and Sept. 26, 2009, The Proposal, starring Ryan Reynolds and Sandra Bullock, was shown in the DiStefano Lecture Hall and the Wakehurst Little Theater. This hilarious romantic comedy of Margaret Tate (Bullock), a cut-throat book editor, and her assistant, Andrew Paxton (Reynolds), is one that will keep you laughing the whole way through! Tate discovers that she is to be deported back to Canada due to an expired Visa, and as a result hoodwinks her assistant into marrying her so that she can keep her job. Paxton agrees only after she promises to promote him.
The two embark on a trip to Alaska for Andrew’s family party. In Alaska, the two break the news to his family of their quick and speedy engagement to make the charade seem more legitimate. Unfortunately, Paxton’s family becomes enthused to have the wedding that very weekend. The two are put on the spot and feel they have no choice but to tolerate each other and go through with the wedding. Of course, just like any other romantic comedy, the two find out that they really do care for each other.
Student activities did an excellent job of setting the theater aesthetic. The big screen and movie theater type seats in both venues made students comfortable as they kicked back and enjoyed the movie. Student activities are set to show other great movies this semester. Other upcoming films at the Wakehurst Little Theater and DiStefano Lecture Hall include The Ugly Truth, Transformers, Funny People and The Orphan.
