It is clear that a vast majority of students on Salve’s campus love the fall, especially the month of October. Could it be for the foliage, or for how
beautiful the cliff walk looks in the afternoon? Everyone loves this month for various reasons, but the big talk has been about October 31st, Halloween Night.
Some have prepared for the festivities by doing things that they always did growing up, whether it be decorating their rooms, houses and even cars. Others have bigger plans, like going to Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween, which has always been a tradition that enables people to experience first hand what this holiday is all about.
I know that my personal favorite part about this night was receiving all of the candy and goodies from my neighbors. Sadly, I think my years of door hopping are over, and I know other students have also given up this annual event as well.
We have come to an age where trick-or-treating is not an easy option for a lot of us, but that does not mean that we can’t find new ways to celebrate the holiday as adults while reminiscing about all of the good Halloween memories we had growing up.
You hear of people getting crazy things on Halloween- like hot dogs, or vegetables. There are also the houses where people truly get in the Halloween spirit- transforming their homes into full on haunted houses that look like they are straight out of a horror movie. While this supreme devotion can be considered rather spooky, it’s this Halloween passion and creativity that’s what makes this day so memorable.
My favorite trick-or-treating experience happened with my best friend. We had been around the block numerous times and were about to call it quits, when we noticed that there was one house that we had missed. I walked over to ring the door bell, but no one was there. There was a cauldron with a sign saying “ take one”, and it appeared to me there was candy in it, so I reached inside. I was so wrong. Instead of pulling out candy, I was pulled in by a hand. I was so freaked out that I left my candy there and ran home.
Of course, I was mad at the time, but looking back upon it now makes me laugh. Because that is what Halloween is all about-trick or treat, right?
Let’s take a look around Salve’s campus to see what other students are saying about their favorite trick-or-treating experience!
Monika Borkowski- Monika’s favorite trick or treat memory was from when she was 13 and went trick or treating with her friend in a neighborhood, and when they rang the door bell a couple invited them inside for a party rather than giving them candy.
Kailey Fitzpatrick: In 6th grade she was a ” tacky tourist” and on the way trick or treating she tripped and fell and her stuffed belly fell out.
Davonta Valentine- I would start trick or treating really early when I was younger and would get the big candy bars in the neighborhood.
