With finals right around the corner and the sunny weather expected in these coming weeks, what a perfect time to take a stroll and cozy up in a café. Whether you have a tedious paper to write, texts upon texts to study, or a project to complete, a change of environment and the opportunity to people-watch may be the inspiration you need!
Here’s this spring’s lineup and why you should make the trip:
1. Coffee Grinder
This espresso-bean smelling café is situated across from the Red Parrot on Thames Street, right next to the Surf Club! Inside, you’ll find lots of delicious, homemade treats to choose from, the lovely owner, Alyssa, and numerous places to choose your study spot! There are several long tables, perfect for that study sprawl, and adequate light from the indoor lighting and windows that let the view in but keep the chaos out! There is moderate noise, with customers filtering in and out, but the music played is often times perfect for getting into the zone! Make sure to bring your hotspot because unfortunately, there is no WIFI available. The café may not have WIFI, but it is home to Alyssa’s Food Network- famous banana bread. Trust me, it’s worth a try!
2. Kaffeology
A café on the cute side! Seriously, if you are on the search for an ambient atmosphere to get you in the warm weather state of mind, this is the place for you! Located on Thames Street, Kaffeology is a hop, a skip, and a jump away from campus by car, trolley, or foot! The food, from what I’ve heard, does not disappoint, and the coffee is exceptional. Yes, there is WIFI, but due to the establishment’s smaller size, you may need to scramble to snatch a table or two. As far as noise goes, the music played, yet again, is not distracting and only adds to the study experience! Once you claim your spot in front of the aesthetically pleasing, fern-painted wall, you’ll be glad you did!
3. Lucy’s Kitchen
Lucy’s Kitchen, the canine-friendly café, is my go-to spot when I need an environment a bit on the quieter side, granted the café does get busy during the lunch rush. The influx of noise around noon, however, is not overbearing. Rather, it adds to the inspiration of an animated environment! The space is bright and furnished with a mix of booths and chairs decorated by throw pillows that elevate the level of comfort. WIFI is available for use, and the music is suitable for a study environment! Being located on Thames Street yet again, Lucy’s is an easy commute from Salve. The bonus? The dogs that make an appearance in the shop serve as the perfect excuse for a study break!
4. Springline Coffee
Sunshine and sea are what you’ll find at Springline. This quaint, dockside coffee shop is situated at the tail end of Bowen’s Wharf with a stunner view of Newport’s harbor! With strictly outdoor seating (on a covered porch, might I add), this tucked-away gem is the adequate spot for that especially nice spring day. Despite being an open-air café, the noise level is relatively moderate and varies depending on the flow of customers as well as tourists. I don’t recall WIFI being available, so I would play it safe by assuring you have a hotspot handy! Hand-roasted coffee, a marina view, and yes, some schoolwork, all complement each other when it’s spring at Springline…the name says it all!
