The 2008 NBA Champion Boston Celtics will transform the campus’ athletic facilities for their pre-season training camp according to Salve’s website.

The Celtics are trading the sights of Rome for the ocean, imported trees, and historic mansions. Last season coach Doc Rivers brought the team to Europe for pre-season where they bonded as a team after bringing in players Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett. This year they decided to stay a little closer to Boston, M.A. traveling only 70 miles to Newport, R.I.

This past June the Boston Celtics beat the Los Angeles Lakers 131 to 92 in the sixth game of the NBA finals, celebrating the remarkable win on their home court, the TD Banknorth Garden. They led the series four games to two games. This championship became their seventeenth title.

On Oct. 4, students, faculty and staff at Salve will get the opportunity to see the Celtics in an intimate setting.

The Celtics are opening their scrimmage to the Salve Regina community.

Starting Sept. 15, members of the Salve community can enter for a chance to attend the Celtic’s annual pre-season scrimmage.

Four hundred seats are available, 200 of which will be raffled at $10 per ticket with the proceeds benefiting the Salve Regina Mercy fund. The remaining 200 tickets will be sold first come first sold the following week for $250 to benefit Salve Regina Athletics according to Salve’s website.

The lottery will open September 15 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and end the following day, September 16, at 4 p.m.
