Editor’s Note: A previous version of this article stated that Reader’s Digest had named Salve as the most beautiful campus when the honor was given by Travel + Leisure. The name has been corrected.
Travel + Leisure has recently dubbed Salve Regina University the most beautiful college campus in Rhode Island. In honor of this wonderful assessment published in such a well-known national magazine, here are a few of the most wonderful things that Salve students get to enjoy on a daily basis.
Ochre Court
Ochre Court is the focal point of campus. It was the first building given to the university, where it used to house all of the university’s classes, residence halls, cafeteria and library. Today, it houses the university’s administrative offices and hosts all of Salve’s most popular events such as concerts and balls. Like all of the mansions on campus today, one can go there every day for years and keep discovering new details in the exquisite architecture both inside the building and out.
Wakehurst
Another utterly breathtaking mansion on campus is Wakehurst. In addition to housing a few classrooms and professors’ offices, Wakehurst is a beautiful place for students to get together during downtime. Outside the building is a vibrant garden and great lawn kept meticulously manicured by Salve’s excellent landscaping staff. Students get to enjoy all of this during warmer weather by having lunch under the awning of Wakehurst’s large porch, picnicking on the lawn and attending carnivals and similar events typically held on the grounds of Wakehurst.
Pets
There’s no shortage of adorable furry friends on our campus! At the Mercy Center, you’re sure to find Minnie Pearl (pictured above) curled up on one of the couches. In the Miley Garden Level, you’re likely to find Sasha, Salve’s resident therapy dog. In addition to these two campus pets, Salve hosts frequent therapy dog visits during midterm and final exams!
Campus Activities
One great thing that really sets Salve apart from other universities is the exciting and elaborate line-up of events that happen throughout our beautiful campus over the course of the school year. We have very elegant balls in Ochre Court and the Pell Center where students can re-wear prom gear, snack on pastries, win prizes and dance with their friends. We also have many panel discussions, movie nights, “Things for Thursday’s,” and concerts.
The Community
The most beautiful thing about Salve without a doubt is the people and the community that we form. Salve students show incredible respect, love, and compassion for each other. This is a school where tremendously strong friendships are made, and you’ll find yourself wondering how you ever got along before you met these people.
