Dressing up your dog is just one fun thing to do in October.

1. Get into the spirit right away:

This is the most crucial step. The sooner you get into the spirit of October, the more you will be able to enjoy all the fun this splendid month has to offer.

2. Deck out your living space in Halloween attire:

This is the best way you can get into the “Halloween spirit.” Do not make it a chore, though, have fun with it and try to be creative! Lie out fake cobwebs or put out bowls of fake human intestines-whatever suits your fancy! Just also keep in mind that music can add a lot to an environment; the Halloween theme song or Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” would be perfect for adding more to a spooky Halloween theme.

3. Consider going to “Oktoberfest”:

With delicious German cuisines and festive dancing, Oktoberfest can be fun for people of all ages. The festival provides a taste of Germany’s unique culture, as well as a nice relaxing escape from all troubles. Look to see if there are any festivals near your home. Oktoberfest is something that everyone should experience at least once.

4. Get pumpkins from a local farm to either carve or paint:

It is an activity that is fun, and it helps you explore your artistic creativity. If you choose to carve your pumpkin, then be sure to scoop out its innards with your own hands. Yes it may be gooey, but it’s a lot more fun than using tools. Then, after you are finished crafting your masterpiece, be sure not to waste the seeds. Cook them or eat them raw; this little treat comes only once a year.

5. Go Apple Picking:

Another fun thing to do at a farm. October is one of the best months for apples, so take advantage of this opportunity. Afterwards, put your apples to good use. For example, bake them into a pie, dip them in candy coating, or simply eat and enjoy them.

6. Drink Apple Cider:

Whether it is naturally farm-made or from a store-brand bottle – taste a glass of apple cider. Just make sure it is heated, so then you will be able to sip it, lay back and sigh: “Ah this is the life.”

7. Bake Halloween treats:

This is a fun, unique and cute way to further get into the Halloween spirit. There are tons of potential treats out there, from yummy mummies to witch cakes. Research them online or perhaps, even try to make your own.

8. Make your own costume:

Wearing costumes are perhaps the most anticipated activity of Halloween. However, don’t merely purchase a vampire costume set or throw a bed sheet over your head to simulate a ghost. Come up with your own creation. You’ll have more fun that way, and more people will admire you. Be innovative. One possible idea? Pasting crushed cereal boxes on your back and going as a “cereal killer”.

9. If you have a pet, dress them up in a light costume:

Your pet may not enjoy it, but it will provide hilarious photos, perfect for greeting cards. Just be sure they will be able to move and breathe. If you do not think you can make a pet costume then remember, certain stores have costumes deemed for animals, such as “Count Barkula”.

10. Watch a marathon of Halloween movies:

This can be done by watching an assortment of videos at home or even by watching the Disney Channel’s Halloween specials. Either way, be sure that you watch both “Hocus Pocus” and The “Nightmare Before Christmas.” Those films are essential to watch.

11. Go on a haunted tour ride:

Yes they can be frightening and feel very realistic, but sometimes getting a good scare can be fun. It is also a great way to test your bravery.

12. Gather a bunch of friends and attempt to learn the dance moves in Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”:

It is a great bonding experience, as well as an activity that can result in hilarity and perfect material for a YouTube video. Just be sure to do it with people who will not judge your dance skills too much…

13. Attend a Halloween-themed dance:

Another great way to get into the spirit of Halloween and have fun.

14. Read scary novels at night by candlelight:

It adds a very spooky touch and is a great way to spend an evening. Not a fan of scary stories? Then opt for something like Harry Potter.

15. Attend the screening of a scary movie:

Get very frightened during the Halloween season; it is the holiday of spookiness after all. Attend the screening of a new film or of an old one. In either occasion, it is often enjoyable to go with two types of friends, one who may laugh when a character is about to die and one who jumps at the first sight of gore.

16. Go trick-or-treating:

This should be obvious. There is not much else that is more fun than dressing up, walking door-to-door and getting free candy. It really is the main attraction of Halloween. If you feel that you are no longer the proper age to be a trick-or-treating do not be discouraged. Go along with a young child that you know. You will be protecting them as well as reliving your youth!

17. If you insist on staying home for Halloween, then make sure you have the memorable house:

This does not just include outward appearance as mentioned in Step 2. Little trick-or-treaters visit numerous houses during the night, and you want your house to stand out. This can be achieved in numerous ways. Hand out unique things for treats such as small toys, stickers, school supplies or animal crackers. Maybe lay out a mini treasure hunt for the kids to find the candies.

18. Visit Salem, Mass.:

You can do all that is listed above, but you will not truly experience the spirit of Halloween unless you go to Salem. With its history and all the Halloween-themed sights and activities, you will get a true feel for the holiday and perhaps experience a little spookiness.

Hope you have a Happy October! Good Luck!
