Being surrounded by succulent turkey, stuffing, breads and desserts has become so traditional; it is very easy to lose sight of what this holiday truly represents. Be grateful and give thanks that you have the luxury of a well prepared hot meal, as there are many who will not share this great fortune. With all of the natural disasters that have happened during recent years, remember all of the people that were affected by these devastation. Give thanks for being spared such disasters. Be thankful for having your family and friends around during holidays such as this; there are many who have no one who cares.

Remember those whose lives have been compromised in ways yours has not, and include them in your prayers when you sit down at the table with your loved ones. This year, many will be celebrating Thanksgiving dinner at shelters or with food that they have received from donation centers; especially those recently affected by Hurricane Sandy. When you are eating your third serving of pie, remember those who might be wishing that they could have a single slice of pie.

It is also often easy to forget that some families have to make grave sacrifices for their children to attend college. For some, the cost of college tuition may not allow for the possibility of a Thanksgiving meal. Let us also keep those families in our hearts and prayers.

So as you begin your preparation for the upcoming Holiday, remember to reflect on how truly blessed you are and rejoice!
