NEWPORT – Firefighters rescued a severely injured woman from the rocky coastal edge below the steepest point of the Cliff Walk, nearest Salve Regina University’s Ochre Court building around 7:15 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 11.

As of Friday, Sept. 12, Director of Safety and Security, John Mixter said in an e-mail, “I cannot comment further as the case is under active investigation by the Newport Police.”

The Office of Safety and Security advised the Salve Regina community to contact them with any information to help identify the woman.

Her identity, a 46-year-old woman from Indiana, was not known until today, per Salve Regina University’s Chief Communications Officer, Kristine Hendrickson. The Newport Daily News confirmed her identity in today’s paper as Judith Corrigan from Terre Haute, Ind.

According to The Newport Daily News, the woman was apparently staying at an area hotel for a job interview. Relatives contacted the Terre Haute Police Department with her location. Middletown Police officers were notified and checked with the hotel where her identity was confirmed.
