Coach Ed Habershaw returned to coach the Salve Regina University Women’s Tennis Team for his 16th season this year. Graduating from Bryant College, he has been named Common Wealth Coast Conference Coach of the Year three times. Habershaw previously coached the Salve Men’s Tennis Team for four years. With 10 conference championships and three runner-up finishes, his career record is 177 wins and 66 losses.
With his impressive credentials, Habershaw has led the Seahawks to six wins and seven losses as of the weekend of Oct. 17, 2009. Playing teams from Endicott, Curry, Nichols, Roger Williams and more, the girls always arrive on the court with the same mantra: “Positive thoughts produce positive results.” It was this encouraging philosophy that led the team to a victory against Wentworth Institute of Technology on Oct. 10, 2209. Although the match was delayed because of rainy conditions, this did not stop the Seahawks from claiming their prize. Dominating eight to one, Erin Phillips heavily contributed in both the singles and doubles category, accompanied by Jessica Timpano. Other reliable competitors included Nichol Stevens, Valerie Leso, Erin Henriksen and Elise Jones. More statistics and career records are available on the Salve Regina University Athletics’ web page. The women’s tennis TCCC Tournament began Oct. 21, 2009. Come out and support the team’s matches.
